Avalanche is a figurative sculpture made from wire and bamboo.
Using a 2” x 4” woven fence made from 12.5-gauge wire Chad created a from. The wire form of the sculpture was attached to a wooden platform and designed as if it was in constant movement. After adjusting the form to ensure balance and features displayed properly the outer shell could be attached. Using hot glue randomly cut section of bamboo were painstakingly attached to the wire sub frame. Each piece of bamboo was chosen to by size and color to ensure the sculpture had contrast and texture. Attaching bamboo to the wooden base formed a snowboard. This and other features like the mitts and helmet bring the piece together and emphasize movement while continuing to be balanced.
